More about EDNA

EDNA (Educating Dental Nurses Association) provides educational literature for both student and registered dental nurses.

Student Dental Nurses (Dental Nurses in training)

To be a dental nurse you must enrol at an accredited training centre. Accredited dental nurse training mainly takes place in colleges of further education, primary care trusts (PCTs), dental hospitals or private training organisations.

At the end of your dental nurse training you will take an examination recognised by the General Dental Council (GDC) to obtain your qualifications such as the National Certificate in Dental Nursing awarded by the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) or NVQ/VRQ in Oral Healthcare Level 3 awarded by City and Guilds. After two years of working as a trainee dental nurse along with your qualification certificate you can then apply to be registered on the Dental Care Professionals Register.

The textbook "Dental Nursing the EDNA Way" is an asset to your dental nurse training. It prepares you for your exams and covers the dentistry that you will be involved in providing every day of your professional lives. It contains easy -to-understand explanations of dental procedures and is illustrated with clear diagrams. Self assessment questions and multiple choice are present throughout the text to help you study and to gain confidence in your ability to answer examination questions.

Registered Dental Nurses

After obtaining your dental nursing qualification and practicing for two years you may then register with the General Dental Council. As a practicing dental nurse in the UK you are also legally required to have indemnity insurance (commonly known as dental protection) and continue your professional development. Some dental nurses also chose to join the British Association of Dental Nurses (BADN) which is a professional association and registered trade union for dental nurses.

Registered dental nurses must continue professional development with dental nursing CPD. Ednaweb.com provides verifiable dental nurse CPD online. The system is easy to use, clear and concise. Ednaweb.com looks at dentistry from the dental nurse's perspective and focus' on core topics as well as other verifiable CPD subjects.
