About EDNA
Educating Dental Nurses Association (EDNA) is an educational vehicle available to every dental nurse at every level whether you are registered nurses, enrolled students or nurses in training who are waiting to be enrolled on a course.
The world of dentistry is dynamic and EDNA feels strongly in providing high quality education to all dental nurses. This education should consist of books and articles specifically written for dental nurses containing information relevant to your careers.
EDNA provides comprehensive undergraduate education for student dental nurses. It also provides both verifiable and general continuing professional development (CPD) for registered nurses.
www.ednaweb.com has no waiting lists, no restrictions on places available and can help you prove to the General Dental Council that you are serious about your dental education.
How is "Dental Nursing the EDNA Way" different to other textbooks?
"Dental Nursing the EDNA Way" is available both as a textbook and electronically on this website.
It is a comprehensive text covering both the traditional subjects and modern aspects of dentistry such as implants, dentine bonding, child management, computer records and cosmetic dentistry. It covers the dentistry that you will be involved in providing every day of your professional lives.
It approaches dentistry from the dental nurse’s perspective. It provides detailed accounts of your role in every procedure and the challenges you will face as a nurse.
Throughout the text are self assessment questions and multiple choices. This helps you to absorb the information and gain confidence in your ability to answer examination questions.
The chapters of "Dental Nursing the EDNA Way" also correspond to the test modules found on www.ednaweb.com providing more self assessment questions. However these questions place the dental nurse in life-like surgery situations and tests how you would respond to them. It applies the theory you have learnt to the practical world of dentistry. It also keeps an electronic log of the dates, marks and number of modular tests you have taken so that you can see your progress and prove that you are studying.
What is the GDC?
The General Dental Council (GDC) is the dental professions regulatory body. This means the GDC has the ability to register dental nurses. Likewise the GDC also has the ability to take dental nurses off the registrar if they have not maintained their continuing professional development or have seriously breached professional conduct. The GDC protects patients by monitoring dental professionals.
Dental Care Professionals Register
All qualified dental nurses must now be registered with the GDC on the Dental Care Professionals Register. If a dentist employs a non registered dental nurse, that dentist may be liable to a fitness to practice proceeding and possible erasure from the register.
Student dental nurses who are training towards recognised qualifications do not need to register with the GDC until they have completed their studies. Student dental nurses should be enrolled on a training programme approved by the GDC.
What is CPD?
CPD is continuing professional development. Every registered dental nurse is obliged to continually update their dental knowledge in the interests of maintaining a high standard of patient care.
